In your own space, write about a moment in fandom that meant a lot to you.

I'm not sure I can narrow this down to one specific moment, so I'll talk about a few. [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid is something that I support whenever I can, and the idea of people from all fandoms pulling together to help those in need after a crisis is just a wonderful and uplifting thing to see, and take part in. On a more everyday level, I love to read and see RL meet ups from my flist; I get such a sense of joy in that! I also like to see the outpourings of love and support to those in fandom who are in need, whatever their situation. I guess what I'm trying to say is that fandom matters, and that we do make a difference, and that means a lot to me ♥

For fannish squeeing and discussions I'm a big fan of [livejournal.com profile] spn_bunker, and I love [livejournal.com profile] spn_littlebro for hurt!Sam/Jared recs. There's so many challanges that I look forward to every year, both to take part in and just to relish in all the fanworks they produce and here's just a few of my highlights; [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen, [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling, [livejournal.com profile] spn_meanttobe, [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas, [livejournal.com profile] sammybigbang and of course [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang!

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

I've loved H/C for as long as I can remember - in SPN, as well as a lot of other TV shows/books/movies etc, especially if it was a character that I was fond of, or held dear to my heart. Perhaps it's a mothering thing, and part of me wants to fix them? Or maybe it's just the image of a hero showing vulnerability? Or maybe it's a more shallow reason in that they just look pretty in red ;) Whatever it is, I love it.

One of my wishes for Day 6, was H/C icons, and today the absolutely wonderful and generous [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal created some icons for me, as well as a picspam of Winchester brother h/c. You can find that here and if H/C is your thing too, you'll  love it!

Send feedback to two fannish people — they can be anyone you want: a writer who’s made you happy, a moderator of your favorite exchange (not us!), a fanartist you avidly follow… There are so many possibilities. Just let someone know you appreciate their work.

This might be cheating slightly (or a lot!) but I just want to thank ALL my flist and the entire SPN fandom for all that they do. Everyone plays their part, whether you're a creator, a commenter, a beta, a moderator etc, because without you we wouldn't be the active fandom and community that we are! So thank you to everyone, and a big group cheer for the year ahead and to season 13! ♥

Also I want to give a huge shout out and thank you to my longest and dearest fandom friend [livejournal.com profile] harrigan who lets me pick her brain and bounce fic ideas, and who fixes and betas all my work, and gives me endless inspiration and support; I couldn't play my part in fandom with her. So thank you [livejournal.com profile] harrigan for all you do and who your are, and for sticking with me for all these years (and hopefully many more to come!) ♥

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself.

This is one of those challenges that makes me feel uncomfortable and one that I find very hard to do. Therefore I will not skip this one, and I will make myself do it. So here goes;

1. I'm a good friend. My friends often approach me with personal problems and issues, and I'll always make time to be there and listen, and offer what support I can.
2. I'm a positive person, and I try hard to focus on the good and not on the negative.
3. I'm fun to be around. I laugh a lot (and it's a loud laugh) and I often makes others, and myself, laugh.

The wonderful and oh so generous [livejournal.com profile] crowroad3 has written me a deliciously beautiful fic to fill a wish I left on Day 6 of the Snowflake Challenge. As always with [livejournal.com profile] crowroad3's work, it's painted with magical words and is just so creative. It's short and perfectly formed, so please read and comment;

How I Want You Green

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Maybe someone will grant a wish, or maybe you will grant a wish.

1. A h/c Sam Winchester icon would be a lovely treat!
2. A little SPN gen drabble fic. Something about Sam and Dean's final moments together (I can't get enough bittersweet bro-mos!)
3. I'd also like an SPN Christmas icon if possible! Or maybe just a pretty Christmas tree that I can use.
4. I'd like to encourage people to be as active in their fandom as they can! Post and comment, squee and interact, and lets keep our fandoms active, happy, and welcoming places to be.

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

I try to consume as many fanworks as I can whether it's art, fic, vids, thinky thoughts, etc, so this is actually quite difficult for me. I think I'll go with some recs for things that were created for me for challenges:

1. Hope for Happiness (PG13 Gen. Sam and Dean) by [livejournal.com profile] excoyote for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen. This fic is a thing of quiet and tender beauty and is written with such heart and feeling, and the most gorgeously written Sam POV.

2. Promenade (PG13 Gen. Sam and Dean) by [livejournal.com profile] frozen_delight for [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling. This is a beautiful, bittersweet and perfectly formed pocket-sized fic.

3. The Long Road Home (PG13 Gen. Sam and Dean) by [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas A wonderfully written curtainfic that features so many things that I love, including smart boys, spot on brotherly banter, and a perfect road trip for our boys.

4. Is it cheating to rec my own rec lists? I'm going to do it anyway because there's just so much talent in this fandom. So here is a list of 10 recs from 2016's [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling and here is a list of 10 recs from 2016's [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen.

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

Once great thing about fandom is meeting new people, and I'm always open to that. I've been (slowly) working my way through the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas fic and art gifts so I've left quite a comments to new people today and over the last few weeks. But if there's anyone out there who would like to make a new friend, please feel free to drop me a line!

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

1. I'd like to complete and post a fic that isn't linked to a challenge. Over the years I've noticed a trend where more and more of my work has stemmed from a challenge/prompt and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's come to the point now where 100% of my fics are challenged based, and I actually struggle to write when I don't have a deadline. So I'd like to be stricter with myself this year.
2. Write a drabble for each episode of season 12 (so far, so good. I did this for season 11 and I'd like to keep it up as it helps to keep me more active in fandom).
3. I really would love to work with an artist again this year (2015 was the lovely [livejournal.com profile] becc_j and 2016 was the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver, so I'm on a roll!!!)

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

Supernatural introduced me to fandom. Before it there were many shows that I enjoyed and would watch over and over, but nothing made me seek out more; whether that was spoilers, photos, interviews etc. It was while looking for something more that I stumbled across fanfiction, and then the idea of fandom in general.

Over the years my experience of SPN fandom has changed. I've gone from being an anonymous lurker and commenter, to opening accounts and posting stories, to taking part in challenges, and meeting and interacting with a whole group of people who I consider friends. This is a huge thing for me, something that I hope has changed me in a positive way, and certainly something that has enriched my life. So yes, Supernatural has left a mark, and a very big and important one too.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I'm a little late to this party, but I love this challenge and I don't want to miss out this year so I'm playing catch up. I always struggle with reccing my own work and for that reason alone, it's also one of the challenges that I make myself complete. So here we go;

1. Heart's Desire (Sam and Dean, gen. PG13). This was written for 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas secret Santa challenge for [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler. It's been a long time since I wrote a curtain/future fic, and I love both reading and writing them, so it was so much fun writing one again. Plus, it's always such a joy gifting a fic, and also receiving one. As it turned out [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler wrote for each other this year, which was such a joy!

2. The T-Shirt (Sam and Dean gen. PG13). This was written for a prompt by [livejournal.com profile] kettle_o_fish for the Happy Birthday, Sammy! challenge at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam. It was a late entry, but I just couldn't get the prompt out of my head. It's a short but sad fic, and while I've written things similar to this, for some reason this one really stands out as something special. Despite the subject material, I'm very fond of it.

3. Heartstrings (AU J2. PG13). This was a collaboration with the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver for the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_meanttobe challenge. This was my first year taking part in this delightful challenge, and I was lucky enough to work with such a wonderful artist. I had a blast writing this fic, and working with the prompt. This was only my second experience working with an artist on a project, and I do hope to collaborate with more artists in 2017.

Day 15

In your own space, talk about what you're taking away from this challenge. Did you learn something? Did you interact with new people? Or did you try out different fandoms or formats or relationships? What's changed between Day 1 and Day 15 of this challenge?

I think one of the main things I'll take away from this years challenge is that fandom is a beautiful thing, and that sometimes I take it for granted. While answering and completing some of these challenges, I've realised exactly how much it means to me; to meet and interact with like-minded people, who feel just as passionately as I do, and that I'm really not alone in those feelings. I think maybe I need to appreciate it a bit more too, because we're so lucky in this fandom, Show is still airing, so there's still so much activity and new fanworks to be devoured, and so many people, both new and old to fandom, to meet and squee with.

I've made some new friends, which is always welcome, and I think I've also learned that I need to be a little bit more open when I'm here, and not to be so scared to share more of 'me' with my fandom friends ♥

Day 14

In your own space, share your love for something fannish: a trope, cliché, kink, motif, theme, format, or fandom.

H/C has always been something that I've loved - in SPN, as well as a lot of other TV shows/books/movies etc. It's something that I remember enjoying when I was younger; especially if it was a character that I was fond of, or held dear to my heart. Perhaps it's a mothering thing, and part of me wants to fix them? Or maybe it's just the image of a hero showing vulnerability? Whatever it is, I love it. So if you ever get me in a challenge, just rough up a Winchester (especially Sam, but Dean is always welcome too!) and I'll be delighted! ;)

Day 13

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

I try to consume as many fanworks as I can whether it's art, fic, vids, thinky thoughts, etc, so this is actually quite difficult for me. I think I'll go some recs for things that were created for me for challenges or filling a prompt I've left:

1. The End of the World (and back again) by [livejournal.com profile] harrigan which filled a prompt I left over at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam. Without spoiling too much it's got action, it's got drama, it's got a raw sense of realism, it's got hurt!Sam, it's got perfect Dean, it's got brotherly awesomeness, and a perfectly poignant ending.

2.Paying for Time by [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams for 2015's [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen. This is a bittersweet and tender fic, that brought tears to my eyes. It's wonderfully creative, with a non linear format and fascinating lore and premise.

3. The Lonely Road by [livejournal.com profile] becc_j for a prompt I left at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam. It's the most wonderfully bad ass and beautiful piece of art with Sam on a motorbike that I've ever seen! It's moody and delicious, a little bloody, but in the best and most awesome kind of way.

4.Only Came for my Princess by [livejournal.com profile] chomaisky for 2015's [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling. This is stunning piece of art, and I adore the badass feel of it! The cityscape, the moodiness of the facial expressions, the attention to detail - simply gorgeous!

5. You Can Always Go Home by [livejournal.com profile] safiyabat for 2015's [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas. Such a fascinating AU premise; sprinkled with a wonderful cast of canon characters spanning many seasons. An exciting read!

Day 12

What makes you fannish? And by that we mean, what is it about a tv show/movie/book/band/podcast/etc that takes you from, "Yeah, I like that," to "I need MOAR!!!" Is it a character? A plotline? The pretty? Subtext that’s just screaming to be acknowledged? In your own space, tell us what it is that gets you to cross that line into fandom.

Supernatural introduced me to the concept of fanfiction and fandom. Before it there were many shows that I enjoyed and would watch over and over, but nothing made me seek out more information; spoilers, photos, interview etc. It was while looking for 'MOAR' that I stumbled across fanfiction, and then fandom in general.

And like I mentioned in a previous days challenge, it was the relationship between Sam and Dean that drew me in. The first episode I saw was 1.05 Bloody Mary, and it hooked me; the story line, the horror elements, the already complicated relationship between the brothers, the secrets and history, the family mysteries and ties, the h/c, the pretty - just the whole package. By 1.22 Devils Trap I was desperate for more and the rest, as they say, is history. Eleven seasons later and I'm still here, with no intention of leaving; I'm invested, still wanting 'MOAR' from Show and the characters, and still absolutely fascinated with the brothers Winchester.

Day 11

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself.

I always struggle with these sorts of questions, but I made a promise to do every challenge, even if it made me feel uncomfortable. So here goes;

1. I laugh a lot. I make others, and myself, laugh.
2. I try to be a positive person, to focus on the good and not on the negative, and it's a quality that I admire in others too.
3. I'm a good listener. I'm not sure if I give great advice, but my friends often approach me with personal problems and issues, and I'll always make time to be there and listen, and offer what support I can.

Day 9

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I've had a few things in mind for fandom goals this year;

1. Look in my WIPs file and finish at least one of them.
2. Write a drabble for each episode of season 11 (so far, so good. I have one for 11.09 and will post it next week).
3. I'd love to collaborate with an artist again (working with [livejournal.com profile] becc_j on my first collab last year was such a wonderful experience). Maybe later this year, I'll be brave enough to give reversebang a go.
4. Maybe try out a new challenge.

Day 8

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

This is very similar to the challenge that I created the other day, where I met someone new who commented on my post. We have exchanged a few comments, and I friended them today after their lovely request. So I'm counting this as done. But what a lovely idea for a challenge ♥
