Taking Turns

It's the small things that feel good; drinking a beer with Sam, saving an innocent, and maybe it wasn't a perfect win, but it could have been worse.

Sam's struggling though; with Jack, with Mom, not that he's said anything, but it's simmering somewhere deep down. Dean knows his brother.

So it's Dean's turn; to have some faith, to remind Sam that they can do this. Together.

He had a dream about Mom; she was reaching out for him, telling him he shouldn't give up on her, that Sam was right. Maybe it's time to tell Sam all about it.

A/N: I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I loved the humour, smart and geeking out Sam, all the brotherly shout outs about being protective and concerned (especially when they were separated), Bart was a joy and I was sad to see him go, I loved all the Indiana Jones shout outs, and apart from a few niggles, I lost myself in the story. I'm very fond of this writer, she writes the boys the way I like them (smart and funny, protective and concerned over each other, and the banter about Entrapment was so much fun!) I focused on Dean here as I loved that we're seeing the boys taking turns to keep the faith this season, and because now that we've seen Dean get his 'mojo' back, I'd like to see them revisit Mary again. As always I'd love to hear your thoughts too; on the episode, on the drabble, on everything (just no spoilers please). Take care :)

Thank you, Lovely! I did love how in episode we saw Dean keep the faith and support Sam emotionally. And I'd really like them to focus on how the boys feel about Mary. Take care :)

She understands what we want to see! I hate when they stumble around, being painfully dumb when they are anything but. It always makes me mad on their behalf.

Exactly!!! It would seem that she can write the brothers the way they are, not the way that best suits the storyline. Thank you for stopping by :)

I love this--the shift from one to the other, Dean's read on Sam. The understated, wistful mention of his dream of Mary at the very end. Just perfect!

Thank you for your lovely comment! I loved that switch of roles that we saw in this episode; how now its Dean's turn to have the faith and support Sam. I really would like to hear them talk about Mary again, and how Dean might have had a change of heart about it. Thank you for stopping by :)

I like the idea of "taking turns", and the image of the dream is really lovely. I also appreciate these perceptions about Sam, because I feel like his pain is—for both viewers and in-universe characters—easier to dismiss, because he keeps it less visible. (I mean, my main thought throughout the last scene was Gosh, Sam seems so sad!!! :( but probably I'm more keenly attuned to Sampain than the average viewer, lol.) I think this sort of "chill together with a celebratory beer" moment can be difficult for Sam, because it means not doing anything, which means little or no distraction from all the personal anxieties and sorrows he's been shoving down.

Things I really liked about the episode: Sam's concern about Jack, Bart (I'll miss him!), that scene with Dean and the blood lock. Jensen does such fantastic comedy work. :D

Thank you! It certainly felt like Dean could see that Sam was struggling, and gave him the 'we can do this' speech. But I think you're right, it often feels like Sam's pain is easier to dismiss because he's good at burying it and you're definitely not the only one who sees it! The inaction of these drinking beer moments maybe are hard for Sam, but I like think to think they give him a quiet moment with Dean where they can support each other which I always enjoy.

Yes, I enjoyed this episode too, and your highlights were definitely mine! Jensen always does great with comedy. Take care :)
